Cornerstone Receives Generous Contribution from St. Michael’s Houses
Cornerstone is delighted to announce that we have received a gift in the sum of $40,000 from St. Michael’s Houses to help fund the rehabilitation project located at 5925-27 Etzel Avenue. Begun in 1984, St. Michael’s Houses is an outreach ministry of the Church of St. Michael and St. George which seeks to provide equity funding for low-income persons in critical need of housing.
For those who may be unaware, Cornerstone received funding from St. Michael’s Houses twenty years ago to rehabilitate 6009 Etzel and 6026-28 Etzel Avenue. In fact, a small plaque, worn by traffic and time, hangs just inside the front hallway of 6009, which reads, “St. Michael’s Houses Apartments.” We are, indeed, grateful to partner once again with St. Michael’s Houses to provide safe and affordable housing for our low-income neighbors in St. Louis.

Steady Progress on 5925-27 Etzel Avenue
The work of rehabilitation continues on Etzel Avenue as Cornerstone steadily makes progress on its most recent construction project: 5925-27 Etzel Avenue. As you may recall, Cornerstone purchased an abandoned four-family building last year with the hope of seeing the building restored for families in need of safe and affordable housing. For the past few months we have been busily orchestrating contractors, suppliers, and volunteers in the daunting labor of rehabilitation. All the major systems (plumbing, electric, and HVAC) will be replaced by late January, and by the end of February we hope to be sanding hardwood floors and applying the finishing touches.
For those who live in St. Louis, feel free to stop by and check out the progress. We’d love to show you around and share with you our heart for our friends on Etzel Avenue.
