A Housing Ministry
In 1976, the housing ministry Cornerstone was formed by members of an urban church to address a need for stable, low-income housing in the city. Many families move many times a year. The resulting lifestyle is especially hard on the kids, who may have to keep switching schools. Our vision is for a housing ministry providing safe, stable, and affordable housing--a sheltered opportunity for individuals with jobs to live in one place for a while and establish good credit. Over the years, many of our tenants, like Tomorrow, the girl in this picture, have been able to "graduate"--to move to their own homes.
Cornerstone owns about 30 units of rental housing in two neighborhoods of St. Louis. All our buildings are historic brick structures in need of plenty of upkeep. We have plans to purchase and renovate additional buildings.
The board for this housing ministry currently contains members from Grace and Peace Fellowship, Old Orchard Church, and New City Fellowship, all belonging to the Presbyterian Church in America. We are actively seeking board members from more churches. Contact us if you are interested!
You can join us in supporting families needing housing. Read our newsletter. Pray for us. Come to workdays. Or, bring your group for a mission trip to work for a week at Cornerstone and at other urban sites in St. Louis.
“You will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.”--Isaiah 58:12b
